Gold Coast Road Rage Incident – Skateboarder Avoids Jail.
This case involved a shocking road rage incident which made international headlines after the violent attack was filmed and posted online. The video depicts a skateboarder entering into an altercation with a male driver at a busy Gold Coast intersection. What the video failed to show was events leading to the altercation.
Anthony Nielson, 24, was heading south on Ferry Road in Bundall by foot and allegedly hurled verbal abuse at the 50-year-old male driver, causing the driver to strike Mr Nielson first. What was filmed was the defendant’s reaction to being punched, however, what the video doesn’t show is that Mr Nielson suffers from severe anxiety and at the time of the incident was not taking the correct medication.
Through our experienced representation, the court found that this medical issue was the main contributor to the rage incident and got Mr Nielson 2 years probation instead of jail time.
